Prescription sports eyewear is a specialist field and it is advisable to do sufficient research and planning before buying Rx glasses to ensure they meet your needs effectively.
Here are some important points to help you get the result you need first time, avoiding unnecessary cost and disappointment!

Allow sufficient time to get prescription eyewear
At certain times of year, such as the ski season and the early spring, the demand for sports eyewear reaches a peak. As a result, optical labs are fully stretched to meet production.
We advise to allow plenty of time for ordering eyewear if you need it for a specific deadline!
The time required to manufacture optical lenses will depend on the complexity of your requirements. Stock lenses for standard prescriptions that do not need surfacing can typically be supplied within 7 days of order. High index lenses will take several days longer.
Full aperture lenses normally take longer than Rx insert lenses, particularly if you want polarized or light-reactive lenses. Mirrored lenses require an additional coating process that can add a week to the production time.
You should also factor in time before you go away to check that your vision with the finished eyewear is correct.
Assess whether the eyewear will meet your needs
Before investing in sports eyewear, it is worth considering your range of requirements carefully and selecting eyewear that gives the desired level of protection for your sporting and leisure needs.
For example, which tinted lenses will give you the best protection from glare and the optimum vision in the light conditions that you will normally use the eyewear in.

Check that the eyewear fits you and suits your face!
Before investing in prescription lenses it is sensible to try on the frames for fit, comfort, and style. If the eyewear appears to suit your needs, you can then order insert lenses subsequently. Remember that you will be able to get a refund on the frames but not on prescription lenses once ordered due to their bespoke nature.
Getting prescription lenses made
Many of our customers use Ciliary Blue to make prescription lenses for them to fit into our sports sunglasses. Their customer service is normally excellent and you can get a 10% discount on their standard prices when you buy frames from us.

Check that the sports glasses are suitable for your prescription!
If in doubt about the suitability of sports glasses for your prescription, you should get an assessment from your optician before getting lenses made.
To order prescription lenses online, you must be over 18 and your order must be based on your latest prescription issued less than 2 years ago by a qualified optician.

RX lens coatings
If you are short sighted (indicated by a negative Sphere value) it is normally recommended to have an anti-reflective hard coat on the inside face of the Rx lenses.
If you are planning to use the eyewear for high energy sports you may also wish to purchase the optional anti-mist coating on the Rx lenses.
Use your sports eyewear safely
When you take receipt of your completed prescription eyewear, always try it out in a safe place before using it to drive, fly, play sport, or operate machinery, to ensure that it fits comfortably and securely and that your vision is clear and unobscured.
If you have any problems, get them rectified before further use to avoid a safety hazard.
